“You have been a great help in guiding me through deciding what is important to me in setting up my part time business and giving tips on pricing, marketing, and establishing connections. The process was very gentle, encouraging and validating.”

– Anna

“Recently mentored by four team members, my business plan has taken shape and my website now ranks on the first page of Google, which is essential when approximately 75% of purchases are made from the first page of search results. Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Digital Solutions for?
The Digital Solutions program in Tasmania is open to any business that fits the following criteria;

  • Is based / operating in Tasmania
  • Has an active Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Is a for-profit entity
  • Has less than 20 full-time equivalent staff (which includes sole traders and non-employing businesses

If I register, what is included?

The Digital Solutions program in Tasmania provides small businesses with the tools and resources to make the most of digital tools, and broader advice specific to your businesses needs. The program offering can be broken into two categories;

  • Up to four (4) hours of one-on-one tailored support, mentoring and advisory sessions with any of our mentors.
  • Unlimited access to events, workshops, webinars.
  • Unlimited access to our online learning portal where you can watch recorded sessions and other content.

Access to the unlimited portions of the program are until May 2026 when the current round of the progam concludes.

Can you only help me with digital topics?

While the Digital Solutions program is designed to help in the five key areas of digitising your business, websites and selling online, social media and digital marketing, using small business software, and cyber security and data privacy, we recognise that every business has aspects of digital technology today.

This means that while you might need help in a broad range of areas (business strategy, finances, marketing, operations, human resources, etc.) often technology and digital tools plays a role, and this allows us to offer support to a wide range of business needs.

To find out more about what type of help you need, please get in touch and we’ll help you out the best we can.

I am about to launch my business. Can you still help me?

To access the Digital Solutions program, you must have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN).

If you are looking to start a business, please contact us as we can provide some guidance around these steps, and see how the Digital Solutions program can help you start your business with a great foundation.

Will the one-on-one sessions be face-to-face?

This is entirely dependent on the mentor’s location and availablity, and your own.

We do have a preference for having you meet with a mentor that is in your region to help with local context and networks if that can assist, but as we have a wide range of expertise across the state and meeting in a digital fashion is common place these days, your meeting may be held online or via a phone call, depending on what you arrange with your mentor.

What does it mean by 'full-time equivalent'?

When classifying a small to medium business, the Digital Solutions program uses the classification of 20 full-time equivalent staff as the upper limit for eligibility.

The term full-time equivalent is based on the amount of hours your staff work, not the amount of people working for you. For example, if a business has four staff where the owner is full time and there are three part-timers who each work two days a week, this would be considered 2.2 FTE (1 for for the owner, and 0.4 each for the staff that only work two days a week).

If you are not sure if you are eligible, please just get in touch and let’s check for you.

Is this program government funded?

Yes, the Digital Solutions – Australian Small Business Advisory Service is made possible through the support of the Australian Government, ensuring Tasmanian businesses can access high-quality, local support at a low cost.

Is there a limit to the number of mentors I can work with?

At Digital Solutions Tasmania, we want to make sure you can meet with the mentors that can provide you with the right advice and support that you need. This could mean you meet with multiple mentors to access a wide range of expertise and experience, but we do look to limit the number of mentors you are working with to help you not have to keep explaining your business to new people all of the time, and provide actionable advice that can be checked in on and followed up.
